Animation and visual creativity are deeply rooted in Viborg’s DNA
A key factor is The Animation Workshop, which is among the best animation schools in the world, continuously attracting students and professionals from all over the globe and playing a key role in the designation of Viborg as a UNESCO Creative City in Media Arts.
A Northern European creative hub for animation, XR and gaming
Over the last thirty years, a national creative hub for animation, gaming, XR and new media has evolved around the Animation Workshop. In 2019, this led to Viborg being designated as one of the 26 UNESCO Creative Cities in Media Arts globally. Thus, connecting to Viborg also connects you to the leading media arts cities worldwide.
The visual creativity of Viborg is characterised by a constant flow of global knowledge, education, talent, and productions. It makes Viborg a perfect place to establish a studio or a company that works within entertainment, digital marketing, functional animation, XR, and gaming.
Arsenalet is Viborg’s major creative cluster of businesses working within animation, games and new media and houses more than 60 companies, start-ups and freelancers. Arsenalet is located in Viborg right next to The Animation Workshop.
Viborg Animation Festival is Denmark’s largest animation festival. For a whole week in September, you can enjoy a carefully curated free film programme in the cinema Fotorama, visit creative events and exhibitions, and attend conferences about learning, health and communication where animation, gaming and new technology play a key role.
Building on Viborg’s position as a national creative hub, it is now also possible to study software engineering with focus on gaming and XR technologies at VIA University College’s campus in Viborg.
In Viborg, you will find a very strong relationship between the municipality, visual and creative educational institutions, and the business community. We are all ready to assist you in connecting with UNESCO Creative Viborg.
