Denmark is a small country with a well-functioning road network, network of cycling paths and lanes and public transport. As traffic on the roads is generally smooth, going by car is fast compared to other countries. The public transport network connects all parts of the country.
Bicycles are a popular means of transport because of the short distances and the availability of secure cycling lanes. This means that most Danes own a bicycle and use it as a means to get from A to B and/or for recreational purposes. Particularly people living in larger cities use their bikes as a means of transport.
The network of cycling lanes is being extended across the country in order make it safer for the cyclists and to encourage cycling.
