The majority of sports activities in Viborg Municipality are organised in and by voluntary associations (clubs). The local sport clubs offer a wide range of possibilities from sports for everyone at all levels and age groups to high level competitive sports.

In Denmark, there is a long tradition of citizens joining and forming voluntary associations (‘foreninger’ in Danish) where people with the same interest meet. It can for example be of a cultural, academic, political or social nature.
